CITY PROJECT
The SOL Project is compromised of Education, Business and Sports Professionals whose mission is to facilitate the Development of disadvantaged youth through after school tutoring and athletic related programs. The Sol Futbol Project is not interested in solely providing a Recreational Program, recreational programs serve their target audience well in certain communities, unfortunately we believe a focus on academics with the lure being sports is better suited for the youth of many cities. Our goals are to foster opportunity through the employment of a nurturing after school environment, academic tutoring, health/nutrition information, exercise, and safe facilities, while exposing the children and their families to models of positive healthy lifestyles. There are no programs in our city or neighboring cities which provide the following opportunities.
The SOL Project wishes to work hand in hand with youth groups and offer athletes the opportunity to participate not only on the field but more importantly in the classrooms. Every student will be obligated to sign an academic contract and will be held to
"earn" time on the field by achieving proper grades and satisfactory progress reports. Teaching student athletes’
responsibility is one of our main objectives, respecting teachers, friends, opposing players, facility, equipment and themselves
is an everyday lesson we hope to be able to teach. After a schoolwork period, the children are directed to either the gym or soccer fields where accredited coaches - former professional soccer players/ trainers - provide superior coaching. In addition to our own coaching staff, Sol Futbol invites active, well-known professional players as well as collegiate players/students to provide special clinics and create friendships with our student athletes. Soccer occupies an important component in the lives of Sol Futbol Projects targeted groups; it is the "lure" for enlisting the students' willing participation. The trainers count on their older players to volunteer and mentor our players, the younger children will learn to respect one another, wanting to belong to something positive- Our Older players who have gone through our system are our Role Models- College is our focus- finishing High School is our main objective. There are few organized youth activities in our city. High registration fees and transportation problems restrict or prohibit access to programs outside local communities. I point out other programs focus on Recreation cities need a program that attract young people with a place to feed their dreams, not dreams of professional sports- Simply the Dream that they to can go to a University or College and if they can play sports while receiving an education- then they earned it through hard work and dedication. |
